Adoption brought something I never expected…. Community.
There’s a community of family and friends, and sometimes even strangers that rally strong during the process. They are there when you bring that sweet little one home and they are there throughout life. I got to experience that once again last night as I attended an adoption fundraiser dinner and silent auction.
I’ve known Callie ever since she was a little girl. For years, Callie has had a heart for adoption. And when she married Alejandro they knew they wanted two things… 1. a food truck and 2. they wanted to adopt. I don’t think they imagined that both would happen so quickly. Last year, they started an authentic Mexican Food truck business, better known as Cal & Al’s. I’d heard rave reviews about it, but hadn’t actually tried their food until last night. It was delicious!
Last night, Cal & Al’s closest friends and family came together for a fundraiser dinner and silent auction. Looking around the venue, I saw the community. Some of whom were basically strangers to Callie & Alejandro but they came to support them on their journey.
There was live music and authentic Mexican food prepared by Alejandro’s family. Who doesn’t love music and Mexican food?
There was no doubt that these two are loved immeasurably as the night went on.
Cal & Al shared their story and expressed gratitude to the crowd. It’s a humbling experience to be where they are right now. A place where people you love come together and help you financially. They haven’t taken a cent of it for granted. Callie’s dad shared from his heart as well before he blessed the food.
And sweet Adeline can’t wait to meet her new baby cousin!
Before the fiesta ended, Callie & Alejandro had a fun gender reveal!
There was one more community there last night as well. A community within a community, if you will. Families who have already experienced adoption. We’ve been blessed with a strong adoption community in our local area and let me tell you they love big. I’ve watched each of these families walk through the adoption process. In fact, I had the honor to design all of their adoption profile books! They’ve been there. They know exactly what you are walking through. There’s just an unexplainable instant connection. And that cute little guy in the orange shirt? Yeah, he stole my taco when I wasn’t looking. Good thing I love him big!
Callie & Alejandro, I’m excited beyond belief for you guys! And I can’t wait to meet that precious little GIRL!! She’s got an entire tribe waiting.
